I am delighted that you have decided to find out more about Larne High School.

Larne High School is a non-denominational, co-educational, non-selective school which has served the community of Larne since 1957. The school has a caring ethos which allows children of all academic abilities to fulfil their potential and go on to follow successful careers both locally and further afield. When we see a student, we do not see a grade or a label; we see an individual, with potential, and it is our duty to add value by helping them achieve academic success and appreciate the joy of leaning to learn. Young people joining Larne High School should prepare to contribute to all areas of school life, and to be challenged, stretched and inspired.

In recent years the Education and Training Inspectorate have acknowledged the good standard of learning and teaching across the school. The results achieved at GCSE and A Level show clearly the quality of education delivered by the staff at Larne High School with consistently in excess of 90% of pupils achieving the Department of Education’s key target of 5 A*-C grades or better at age 16. Choosing Larne High School at age eleven is a secure path to success at age 16 and beyond.

Larne High School delivers this high level of success to its pupils because of high quality teaching and learning. Teaching in itself, however, is not enough to develop our young people. A commitment to quality pastoral care and a strong family ethos give pupils a sense of security and belonging and the wide range of extra-curricular activities allows our young people to flourish – sport, music trips abroad, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, and many other activities are on offer to all our pupils. In Larne High School we believe that a young person develops to their full potential when there are strong links between home and school. We hope that if you decide that your child should undertake his or her secondary education with us, you will support us in doing our best for your child and for all our young people.

Larne High School aims to develop all personalities and all talents and interests. Academic work is vitally important to the school and all pupils are expected to reach for the highest possible grades, but as well as examination results the school values highly the creative, physical and spiritual. All pupils should leave the school with a strong set of values helping them to contribute to their local community and to make a difference in society. Everyone in Larne High School wants the young people to leave the school at age 16 or 18 as lifelong learners, with things that are going to matter to them for the rest of their lives.
